Your child’s smile is growing and developing. You may assume this means those newly forming teeth are immune to many of the potential concerns you face as an adult. However, this is anything but true. Your child’s teeth and gums require just as much care and protection if not more. This is because your son or daughter is just learning how to properly employ daily care habits. Rather than causing your child to feel overwhelmed, we encourage you to put some preventive measures into place to make the process easier and enjoyable. By choosing children’s dentistry treatments like sealants, you can encourage your child to feel optimistic about dental care for a lifetime of wonderful oral health.
Why Children’s Dentistry?
Your children’s teeth are growing and will provide them with the smile they will have for the rest of their lives. The best thing you can do for your little one is to provide him or her with the gift of early preventive dental care. By safeguarding the health of teeth and gums as they develop, we can guide them toward strong, healthy growth. We can also immediately identify any concerns that arise along the way, so we can quickly address problems before they result in long-term damage.
Preventive Treatments
Children’s dentistry includes not only dental cleanings and checkups but also more specific preventive treatments to protect developing smiles. We may suggest one or both of the following:
- Dental Sealants: A dental sealant is a clear plastic coating that we will paint over the chewing surfaces of your child’s back teeth. This coating acts as a protective barrier to prevent plaque adhesion as a means of preventing cavities.
- Fluoride: Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that is commonly used in items produced to strengthen teeth. Most toothpastes you see at the store will contain fluoride. You may also find fluoride in drinking water. This is because fluoride strengthens bone tissue and may even re-mineralize areas to protect against tooth decay.
