The “When” Behind Your Smile Care

As you move through life, there will always be another question that shows up here and there about things you’ve done for a long time! Sure, you have been making strides in smile care for years but that doesn’t mean there won’t be moments during which you wonder, “Hmm, when should I be doing that?” Our Livonia, MI team would love to cover some very important “when” questions for you today with helpful answers because it’s one area of dental care that comes up quite frequently (and having a schedule always makes things easier)!

When Should I Practice Dental Hygiene?

You know that you should be practicing your dental hygiene every single day, of course, but what you really want and need to know is when to do all parts. This is very easy to remember:

  • You should be brushing in the morning and then again in the evening. The exact times are up to you but it needs to amount to two brushing sessions, lasting four minutes each.
  • You need to floss either during your morning or evening session.

When Should I Floss? Before Or After Brushing?

You will hear this debated for the rest of your life! Fortunately, the truth is that you can brush first and then floss or you can floss first and then brush. It’s all about what really works best for your personal dental care.

When Should I Clean My Tongue?

Remember that you should clean your tongue during each of your smile care sessions at home. So, brush it (or use your tongue scraper), twice daily, during your dental hygiene sessions. Morning and evening!

When Should I Schedule Visits?

You should give yourself plenty of time to call us up and schedule a dental checkup. As in, don’t call us the day before and hope have the time and date you want. Instead, call us in advance to ensure you are setting up smile care visits two times a year, spaced apart by about six months.

When Do I Come In For Restorative Care?

You come in for restorative smile care when we have told you that you need it. Remember that during your dental checkups with us, we thoroughly examine your smile and will let you know if you require treatment.
