Checkups and Oral Cancer Screening
Bi-annual visits to Dr. Stewart for checkup and cleanings help prevent dental issues from developing, and allow us to treat existing issues in the earliest stages with the most conservative procedures possible. Gum disease, dental decay, and bite problems do not heal naturally and will only worsen over time. Early treatment prevents needless pain and unnecessary expense. So, as you can see, checkups and cleanings are very important!
During your checkup, Dr. Stewart will thoroughly exam your teeth, gums, and occlusion (the way your teeth fit together when you bite). Using DIAGNOdent laser technology, he will also inspect your teeth for demineralization or early tooth decay. X-rays, digital photos, and magnification may also be used to evaluate the fine details of your teeth and gums and diagnose any problems not apparent to the naked eye. Dr. Stewart will also perform a thorough oral cancer screening of your throat, tongue, and other oral tissues. If he notices any unusual sores, thickenings, or other tissue abnormalities, he will bring it directly to your attention. Early cancer detection allows for early treatment, which saves lives.
You may have no dental problems at all during your checkup – and that’s what we hope for! However, if there is reason for concern, you and Dr. Stewart will review his findings on a chairside monitor and together you can decide upon a treatment plan that meets your goals, restores your oral health, and fits your schedule and your budget!
