Your Contouring Options

smilebrunettesweaterWhen learning about tooth contouring and gum contouring, a good place to begin is with the term “contour” itself. First, consider the fact that the contour of your tooth, for instance, refers to its outline. If the outline is poor or awkward, you may have a desire to gently reshape the tissue for a more pleasing appearance. Another use of the word contour means to mold something into a different shape, which is exactly what we can accomplish with your contouring options. From improving tooth shape, length, and texture to re-sculpting the line of your gum tissue, you can expect a dramatically improved smile as a result of your contouring options.

Tooth Contouring

When you’re unhappy with the shape of your teeth or other factors associated with the need for minor tissue removal, it’s time to visit us for tooth contouring. With this cosmetic treatment, we will use a buffing instrument that gently polishes away small portions of tooth tissue. You can soften a pointed “vampire” tooth, shorten a tooth that is longer than the teeth that surround it, reduce a tooth overlapping a neighboring tooth, address poor tooth texture like pitting, and arrive at uniform smile.

Gum Contouring

Gum contouring, similar to tooth contouring, allows you to work toward attaining a uniform grin. In this case, however, we will rely on contouring to reshape your gumline. In some cases, you may feel that the shape and length of your teeth are unsightly because your teeth look short. You may simply require the removal of excess gum tissue to reveal a greater area of your teeth. Or, you may notice that your smile looks uneven. This is sometimes the result of unevenly distributed gum tissue, which of course, we may address with contouring.
